Belize is a tiny country with an outsized natural inheritance. English-speaking and Caribbean at heart, it packs a great barrier reef and dense rainforest into a compact, easy-to-travel space, dotted with ancient Maya cities. Wellness here is jungle-and-reef rather than resort-glossy, built around eco-lodges and the calm of genuine wilderness. A Belize trip suits the traveller who wants their relaxation wild, where a spa cabana sits among the trees and the day might include a hidden cave or a Maya ruin.
The country divides between the jungle and the coast. Inland, the highlands of the Mountain Pine Ridge in the Cayo district hide waterfalls and Maya ruins among the forest, the base for jungle lodges with their own spas. The far south of Toledo is Belize at its wildest and greenest, a region of rainforest, cacao farms and rich culture. Beyond, the cayes and the great barrier reef offshore add the Caribbean beach-and-dive side of the country.
A few notes for planning. The dry season around late November to April is the easiest for travel, while the green season is lush and quieter. The country's Barrier Reef, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is a world-class draw for diving and snorkelling. Inland, cacao has been grown here since Maya times, and chocolate features in both the cuisine and some spa treatments. English is the official language, which makes travel easy. For regions and seasons, the official portal at Travel Belize is the place to check.
