CHENEAUDIÈRE

Overview

La Cheneaudière sits in a calm corner of Alsace, a Relais & Châteaux house given over to unhurried retreat. Two restaurants anchor the table, among them Le Feuillage, which holds a star in the Michelin Guide 2026. The spa runs to some 2,500 square metres, room enough to lose an afternoon. The nearest airport is roughly 31 minutes' drive.

    Magnificent

Hidden by the vegetation, one does not suspect the presence of such a beautiful establishment. Everything is decorated with great taste and, despite a slight inconvenience during the welcome snack that was quickly corrected, our dinner at Le Feuillage was impeccable, from the welcome to the quality of the services, including the room amenities. As for the service and the quality of the dishes during our dinner, there is only one word to say: impeccable.

    Beautiful, Relaxing & Welcoming Hotel

We spent two nights here. It was spectacular! The room was large with a very comfortable and large king-size bed. The pillows were comfortable, and there was a sitting area. The terrace was covered, so it was wonderful to sit outside and enjoy the outdoors. The bathroom is large with a good size shower. There was plenty of hot water and water pressure. There was also plenty of closet space and drawers to store our clothes. We made good use of the hammam and sauna. It was a busy couple of days at the hotel, so there were plenty of people in the spa areas. Everything was well maintained. We had a birthday dinner at the restaurant. It was delicious. The service was impeccable.

    Mixed impression…

First 2 times from the outside, 2 times from the room. Both at 2-day intervals, I tried to reach the front desk by phone. I waited 4 times for 10 minutes, with bird chirping music while on hold, but the front desk never picked up (cell phones exist). I made the comment to the head receptionist who apologized to me but with an air of "keep talking, I couldn't care less" 😡 Unacceptable for a 5-star hotel. I tasted the foie gras from "le chêne" restaurant (which must be the same as the one from the gourmet restaurant): a little too salty and especially covered in a jelly hiding the taste of the liver, impossible to know if it came from a duck or a goose. No respect for the product. Classic breakfast with nothing extraordinary for the category. The day before we were at "aux Balances" in Lucerne where the breakfast was a festival of imagination, variety, presentation, and quality. Hospitality: cozy, very good smiling service (except for the phone), very comfortable room. Prices comparable to establishments in the same category. Overall mixed impression.
