Overview

This is a converted convent on the edge of Evora, and its ninety rooms carry that double character. Some sit in a newer wing with decoration that looks back to the 1950s. Others keep the conventual mood, richly dressed and closer to the building's origins. Five suites round out the count. Evora itself is about ten minutes' drive, with the Heliporto roughly eleven minutes away. The idea here is simple…

Good but lacking in some ways

This place has a lot of positives. It’s probably one of the bigger properties in the area (albeit 75 rooms). Two of the restaurants on site - one Italian, one Portuguese - are good with friendly service and well prepared and interesting dishes. There is a bar that offers food and a wine bar. There are other amenities on site, including a 2 pools, a gym and a spa. The rooms are generally well appointed and clean. There are some negatives. Due to its relative size, it caters to group tours. So we were discouraged (by staff) from going to breakfast at a certain hour. When the groups arrive, they take over the facilities. A quiet pool became noisy with many conversations & music. Breakfast was very average. Eggs were cold from the buffet all three days we were there. On our first day, it took a while to flag down wait staff for coffee. Worst was the check-in. We arrived from Lisbon directly after our overnight flight, getting to the property around 1pm. We were told that our room was not ready (understandable) but that it would be ready “probably around 3” and that we’d receive a call when our room was ready. We were about to be shooed away when we asked if we could get some information about the property. Reluctantly, the young man handed us a map and briefly explained the numbers on it. Given that the property is out of town, that we had no driver to take us anywhere and that we’d have to spend 2+ hours waiting for our room, we expected some more assistance figuring out what we should do. We were forced to roam the property, ultimately finding the bar for lunch. We never received a call. We went back to reception about 345 to find out that our room had been ready for a while.

    Could do better

Magnificent place, successful decor; unfortunately, a drunken group ruined our afternoon at the pool, and our half-board reservation had not been recorded, so we had to wait for "the group to be served." The curse of groups that one might think to escape in an establishment that claims to be luxurious

    A dreamlike place to relax

An impressive 5-star hotel in a convention center. This place has been designed with a sense of proportion and love. The service is attentive and relaxed. There is no such thing as "it can't be done." The two in-house restaurants are very good. The rooms are very well equipped and the beds guarantee a restful sleep. We really enjoyed our time there.
