  Lots of potential but lacking imagination?

  Good location. Very pleasant young man help with our luggage. Strained atmosphere with some hotel staff. When we queried services available we always received a questioning, slightly arrogant response. We mentioned the air conditioner wasn’t working, we were told we were wrong. Our room (“small suite”) was rather spartan; a table with two chairs, all covered, to keep the furniture clean? There was a storage unit, which after our arrival was filled with the cushions and covers from the bed (and stayed there until we left). There was no desk / workspace. We had a balcony with a table (with a cover) but no cushions for the two chairs? We received a small bottle of water on arrival. After that we were expected to pay for everything. We ordered drinks in the lounge. A very helpful gentleman delivered them but there were no ‘nibbles’ with them? The restaurant staff were a mix of no experience and know it and little experience but pretending to have far more. There were one or two who were good. But they seemed as if they had given up on it. The food was at best passable. Watch out for the “hotel shuttle” which is a golf buggy. It’s a very bumpy and draughty ride into town

  Quality products, yes, but a disappointment nonetheless.

  Back in Gordes after a few years of not visiting, I absolutely insisted on booking dinner at Les Bories, a hotel where I had already stayed several times for short romantic getaways and where I had felt so transported by the elegance, the refinement, the beauty of the gardens and the pool, but above all by the restaurant where my taste buds had done nothing but marvel at every bite. What a disappointment last night... while the service was still just as pleasant and elegant with delicate staff who were very attentive, the meal was basic; an appetizer barely up to the standard of what I had known, but a fish main course that was more than simple, and the same for the dessert. I used to remember extraordinary appetizers, but there were none here, and truly a culinary offering that I am used to eating elsewhere. I am disappointed. I was looking forward to this appointment with such impatience.
