Overview

At the turn of the twentieth century, this Belle époque villa on the Ligurian coast drew royals, aristocrats and the artists and thinkers of the day for their holidays. A century on, the Imperiale Palace holds much of what they came for: the calm of its private park, the Liberty-style architecture of the building itself, and the clear water of Santa Margherita Ligure below. Lovely hotel in stunning location

We had a 3 night stay in September and thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff were all courteous and happy to help. What i didn't appreciate in my researching was just how beautiful the hotel is and its setting. Very green and lush with fantastic views. Looking back to the hotel from the town even more beautiful. For those driving, it offers secure on-site parking with spacious parking spots. The walk down to the sun loungers is over a bridge and through lovely gardens (the walk back up will get the heart pumping). Breakfast was lovely with good selection and the pastry chef on top of his/her game (they def added to some of the weight gain this holiday). The room was spacious and immaculately furnished/decorated. Santa Margarita was lovely but the highlight was definitely the walk to Portofino. Absolutely stunning Criticisms are minor but the sun loungers would benefit from some padding, which for a hotel of this standard was a surprise not having as they are uncomfortable after a short period. Also, i wish they offered meals in the lunch area by the sea but sadly it closes at 7pm. The views are amazing and with main area of Santa Margherita being back from sea views, i think the hotel is missing an opportunity to keep guests spending money within. a lovely hotel and if in the area again it would be the first place i would look to book.

An old, neglected hotel with outdated rooms, peeling walls, and a general feeling that maintenance has been forgotten. The breakfast was extremely basic, with canned fruit rather than fresh produce. Definitely more suitable for a 3-star hotel — and even then, a rating of 5 would be generous. Not a place I would recommend.
