Overview

MILIMA is the sister lodge to NYATI, run by Jørgen and Lisbeth Nielsen, who brought nearly three decades of South African lodge-keeping to it when they took it on and gave the place a full renovation. It runs as a fully inclusive safari lodge, with Big Five game drives, cooking that holds up night after night, and a considered list of wines and drinks. The main building gathers the restaurant…

    Wonderful Stay

From the moment we arrived, we felt welcome and at home. Every meal was excellent, the game drives were memorable, and the special touches, such as the wine pairings with lunch and dinner, made our stay even more enjoyable. It was lovely to see how proud the staff were when presenting the wines, which added a personal touch to the whole experience. Our first game drive was incredible, with sightings of two of the Big Five, a huge herd of buffalo, giraffe, and many elephants. The following morning, we were fortunate enough to see rhino as well. The game rangers really went the extra mile in their efforts to find the lions. Although we only saw a sleeping lion while leaving Nyati after our lunch visit, it was wonderful to know that lions are present in the Maseke Game Reserve. Thank you, Shaun, for taking the time to show us Nyati Safari Lodge. What an absolute gem in the Lowveld! Its location on the banks of the Olifants River creates a spectacular setting. Having a driving range at a safari lodge was a first for us and certainly something unique. The morning coffee stops and afternoon sundowners offered breathtaking views. These are the kinds of moments that photos and videos can never fully capture, but memories that will stay with us forever. Our final morning at Milima was a wonderful surprise. Breakfast in the boma, accompanied by sparkling wine and beautifully presented food, was the perfect way to end our stay. Although Milima and Nyati are very different lodges, each has its own special magic, and both are easy products for us to recommend. Milima's waterhole provided amazing wildlife sightings right from the lodge, including elephants, a huge herd of buffalo, kudu, waterbuck, and impala. It was wonderful to sit and watch the animals come and go throughout the day. Nyati, on the other hand, offers the unique experience of being situated on the banks of the Olifants River. Even during our short lunch visit, we enjoyed sightings of crocodiles, many hippos resting in the river, and a fascinating encounter between a few elephants at the water's edge. It was amazing to watch their interaction and behaviour. A special thank you also to all the staff members who looked after us during our stay. Everyone was friendly, helpful, and always willing to assist with a smile. It is clear that a lot of pride and passion goes into making guests feel welcome. Once again, thank you to everyone involved in making our stay so memorable. It was a truly special break that we will always cherish, and we will most certainly be recommending both lodges to our clients with great confidence.

    The Milima waterhole

Milima is a very beautiful camp - with its own waterhole, so we were able to safely observe various animals there from our lounge chairs. That was wonderful! Our room was in the Manor House - not quite as unique as the tents that were also available. The meals took place in the building - it is relatively dark there and you almost miss the many animals ;) Service, kitchen, camp all in top order! The game drives with Sean were also great.

Milima was the most amazing lodge to stay at and complete the safari! Since the moment we arrived all the staff were lovely and knowledgeable. Would highly recommend!
