The name comes from an Ovambo word meaning "in the forest," and the setting earns it. Mokuti Etosha sits on its own 4,300-hectare reserve that shares a border with Etosha National Park, just outside the Von Lindequist gate near Namutoni Fort. Thatched, single-storey chalets are set through landscaped gardens, with three pools and cool green surroundings that greet you on arrival. Rooms look out over the gardens or the bush, and family suites make room for children alongside the standard double and twin accommodation. Dining moves with the mood: Namibian and African fusion cooking at Itulye, a relaxed meal beside the Oshana pool bar, or drinks in the Enota Safari Bar. The SkyBoma takes it outdoors, an open-air venue with live grilling and cultural entertainment under the night sky. Days fill easily. Twice-daily game drives in open vehicles head into Etosha, home to elephant, lion, leopard and the endangered black rhino, while night drives on the estate turn up nocturnal wildlife. Closer to the chalets there are four waterholes, walking trails, resident bontebok, the Omulilo Spa and a tennis court. Bush walks with the Hai//om people share their knowledge of the land. The nearest airstrip, Mokuti Lodge Airport, is about four minutes away, and Namutoni around twenty-two minutes' drive.
