  Beautiful Hotel. Shame about the noise

  My wife and I started here for 1 night for our 20th wedding anniversary. Driving into the estate grounds, immediate first impressions was overwhelmingly positive. The building itself and the grounds are beautiful. We arrived a couple of hours before check in so we had a walk around the grounds and sat down on one of several seating areas right by the river edge. We wanted a glass of sparkling wine for which I was told I had to go to the bar myself and bring back to where we were sitting. That was a shame. I appreciate the grounds area quite large, but having a member of staff just walk around to check in on guests if they wanted anything would have been nice. Check in was very smooth. We checked in online before hand so use was just a case of picking up the room keys. The young lady at the desk was welcoming. We stayed in the garden wing with a river view. Whilst there are large trees it didn’t obscure the river view totally. The room was large and it was great to have a super king bed. The decor, interior and bathroom is not what I would call luxury. It wasn’t terrible but it didn’t blow me away for price we paid for the room. The bathroom was clean and functional and like the rest of the room had Victorian style taps which I right was in fitting with the style and historic nature of the property. Now the big negative about the room. We were in the end room and outside to the side of the room is what looks like the outside units of HVAC system so it got noisy about every 30 mins. Even the window panes on that side were especially frosted as you can see straight into these industrial units. It disrupted my sleep during the night. I am just glad we were only there for 1 night otherwise I would have asked to change rooms. If you are a heavy sleeper you might be ok. It’s room 330 so I would recommend to avoid this room. Upon check out I mentioned my disrupted sleep to the young gentleman at the front desk. He had a very lacklustre response to my comment and did not portray any sympathy to my comments. Beautiful looking hotel in a tranquil setting just let down by a couple of things.

  5 Star Property 2 Star Experience

  Hyatt Members Beware — A Beautiful Estate, But Not a Luxury Hyatt Experience As a Lifetime Hyatt Globalist, I booked this property expecting the level of luxury and hospitality I normally associate with Hyatt’s Mr & Mrs Smith collection. Unfortunately, this property was not even close. Let me start with the positive: the estate itself is extraordinary. It is beautiful, ancient, historically significant, and surrounded by magnificent gardens and parkland along the river. If you are interested in history and old English architecture, there is a great deal to appreciate. Unfortunately, the hotel experience doesn’t live up to the setting. Yes, the building is old—and that is part of its charm. But “historic” and “luxury” are not the same thing. The accommodations and furnishings felt extremely dated and worn rather than elegantly historic. At times, it honestly felt more like staying at your great-grandmother’s house than staying in a luxury hotel charging luxury-hotel prices. Our room also felt cold, and what should have been beautiful river views were largely obscured by enormous trees. The biggest disappointment, however, was the service. The waitstaff we encountered were not particularly warm or welcoming. The overall impression was less “How can we make your stay special?” and more “I have a job to get done, and the guests are slowing me down.” At this price point, hospitality should be one of the property’s strengths. It wasn’t. Hyatt members should also manage their expectations. When I identified myself as a Lifetime Globalist and asked what Hyatt benefits were available, the response was essentially a confused look followed by, “We don’t deal with points—you have to deal with Hyatt.” That was it. No explanation of benefits, recognition of status, or particularly warm welcome. For a property charging around £500 per night, I expected considerably more. If you want to visit a beautiful historic English estate, admire the architecture, walk the grounds and enjoy the river, this is certainly a remarkable place to see. But if you are a Hyatt member expecting a luxury Mr & Mrs Smith hotel experience with exceptional accommodations and service, I would significantly lower those expectations. The estate is five-star. Unfortunately, my hotel experience was not.

  Lovely exterior, interior needs work

  Beautiful grounds and exterior of property, however the rooms are dated and in-need of modernising. Breakfast is also very expensive £25 each and only 2 hot options available. Not sure it’s worth the price per night.
