Overview

The Pestana Collection Plaza Mayor occupies a 17th-century baroque building set directly on Madrid's Plaza Mayor, in the old centre of the city. Its terrace looks across to the Casa de la Panadería and the mythological frescoes painted on its façade by Carlos Franco, while an interior patio holds a quieter, light-filled calm away from the square. There is a spa built into stone walls, a library, and a seasonal…

    Pestana

Great location in the heart of historic Madrid. The hotel has been updated and is very well maintained and very clean. There are three elevators and the main floor entrance is accessible. The service was excellent. All staff we interacted with were wonderful. The rooftop patio and pool is very small so we did not bother to use this amenity. The hotel includes a spa with a very small gym. Although the spa was very nice, we did not have time to use it. The breakfast was included with our stay. The breakfast had a wonderful buffet plus à la carte options. The selection was great and the food was very tasty. The dining area also served lunch and dinner. Separate outdoor dining was also available in the Plaza. Our room was not large, but typical for Europe. The room lacked a place to sit and a desk. The room had a coffee/tea station (complimentary), mini fridge and a safe. Two bottles of water were supplied everyday. Mini fridge items were extra. The room was clean and very modern. Our window overlooks a street and some historic buildings and shops; however, there was not much traffic and we were on the top floor, so noise was not a real concern. The bed was very comfortable. The air conditioning was quiet and quite effective. There was adequate closet space. The bathroom was open to the room and quite functional (two hand basins). The water pressure was good and the water was hot. Overall, we very much enjoyed our stay and would definitely return. Highly recommended!

Very central and the air con works

Spent a few days in Madrid before a wedding in North Spain. Hotel is very central, staff were friendly and the air con works well which is needed in the summer in Madrid.

Great hotel, terrible front of house customer service

So much to love about the hotel but the customer service standards at reception were close to terrible. Barely a hello on arrival, no conversation at all, I was told I'd get a call when the room was ready - didn't even happen, on checkout they didn't even ask how our stay was. The hotel was aware we were staying for my wife's birthday- there wasn't even a "happy birthday" on arrival. Hotel itself is lovely, great location, nice (albeit small ) rooms, great rooftop, nice indoor pool. But the experience was totally marred by the front of house customer service. Having stayed in some of the nicest hotels around the world they were by far the worst. Such a shame.
