Overview

High above Merano, on a private hill beneath its own medieval castle, Castel Fragsburg holds just twenty suites, each one distinct. A garden of some 50,000 square metres surrounds it, and the hours of sunshine and the long views seem to have been the point all along. About eighteen minutes' drive brings you down into Merano, with Heliport Meran roughly fifteen minutes away. The kitchen reads as a study in…

    A dreamlike retreat

Incredibly beautiful and well-maintained hotel with super half-board and breakfast. Feel-good atmosphere from A to Z. Fantastic view into the valley from the junior suites. Absolute peace and quiet! Unusual pool area with a small bathhouse. Overall absolutely exceptional and recommended.

    Beautiful, serene location.

A lovely 20-room boutique hotel that will spoil you and give you the peace and tranquility you've been dreaming of. We loved this place because we felt almost like we were the only ones there. The size and layout of the property mean that even when it's full, you feel secluded. The staff was always helpful and smiling. They made sure our stay was perfect. The breakfast was in a league of its own. If you went hungry at breakfast, it was your own fault. The selection of breads, croissants, and muffins was endless. There were no less than three types of homemade butter, three types of fresh yogurt (plus jarred varieties, as well), six types of jams, two (maybe more) kinds of honey. My favorite was the selection of loose-leaf tea, which let me make my own pot of tea! The grounds are exquisite. There were beautiful surprises around every perfectly landscaped corner. The pool was a bit chilly for me, but it was at a normal temperature (I tend to like it quite warm, so it's my problem, not the hotel's fault). This is a place to relax and rest. We like hiking and being out in nature, so we had to work a little harder to find things to do. The front desk gave us a map of local walking and hiking trails, which we used every day. We found a terrific place to eat called Greiter. I highly recommend it. We hiked to it, but there's a small road if you have a car. We came to the hotel without a car. We took a taxi into Merano one day, which was 60€ round trip. If you're active and want to be out and about, be sure to have a car or be prepared to hire a taxi. We had a tour of the castle (had to arrange the tour for a specific day because there was a wedding one day, and picnic lunches another day). The tour was given by the grandson of the original hotel owner, and he was a fabulous tour guide! He answered all our questions, was generous with information about the castle's history, and made quite an impression on us. I highly recommend the tour; it's fascinating!
