Overview

A nineteenth-century masseria set within the Itria Valley, Villa San Martino sits amid the Murgia landscape, with its characteristic conical trulli marking the surrounding countryside. Tradition and a considered modern hand meet across the resort, where attention to detail carries into every corner. The kitchen leans on Apulian produce and wine, and the setting, entirely open to nature, is given over to wellness and to receptions and events of…

    Don’t be trick

Do not be misled by the hotel’s advertising. This property is presented as a five-star hotel, but unfortunately, my experience was far from what I would expect from a property of that category. The building and grounds still reflect the beauty and grandeur of what was once a magnificent palatial residence, but much of that charm has clearly faded. The Front Desk staff, however, were consistently kind, courteous, and genuinely helpful. The rooms were disappointing: the beds were extremely uncomfortable, the pillows even worse, and the bathrooms very outdated, with old-fashioned bathtubs and showers with no light inside . Basic amenities were not consistently replenished, and even used towels were collected and returned rather than replaced until I specifically requested clean ones. The breakfast was perhaps the biggest disappointment. For three consecutive mornings, the fruit selection consisted of the same melon and watermelon, both served with the rind still on, along with grapes. There was only one type of yogurt and two types of cheese, while the croissants did not taste fresh. There was also a cake that appeared to have been partially served the previous day. This was simply not the breakfast experience I would expect from a five-star hotel. The location is also important to consider: without your own transportation, the hotel is quite isolated, with very little accessible on foot. Overall, while the property has an impressive history and beautiful remnants of its former grandeur, the current experience does not live up to its five-star positioning. The Front Desk team was a definite highlight, but the rooms, breakfast, amenities, and overall level of maintenance fell well below expectations.

5 stars: an April Fools' joke?!

Well, if this hotel is a 5*, then I am an astronaut and I have walked on Mars. I see no other alternatives: photos retouched by AI. This hotel is appallingly negligent, the exteriors almost abandoned. The pool is scary and so is the green color. Junior suite room is gloomy and everything is old-fashioned! Only the bedding is decent. The shower is located in a bathtub with curtains and no light: a dark, uninviting hole! Forget the beautiful photos presented: they in no way represent the service or the reality. Barely 3*! The staff is nice but not very competent. The breakfast is the pinnacle. Per person: 1 croissant, 1 slice of bread, small opened jars of jam, orange juice missing or from a jar, 1 small piece of cheese and cold cuts, and 1 yogurt: that's it!! The staff even seems bored and what's more, there aren't enough tables for everyone; you have to go back to your room and wait. Never encountered such mediocrity in a 5*!!! It absolutely must be downgraded to 2 or 3 stars. If it was ever a 5-star: that was a very long time ago……… Given the breakfast, we didn't dare try a meal in the evening. The spa is non-existent……. An absolute disaster! No charm, no romance, no service……. Nothing qualitative about it, just an inn, nothing more, nothing less. 5-star Horribilis, sorry for the staff who are pleasant and lost between the complaints of dissatisfied and stunned customers like us!!
