Overview

After thirty years on the Basque coast, Thalazur Saint-Jean-de-Luz has settled into its place with its feet quite literally in the sand. The redesigned lobby reaches back to the elegance of the 1930s and softens it with a contemporary hand, marble set against natural, plant-inspired materials chosen with care. The same period informs the rooms, where a seaside mood meets a certain Basque conviviality, and daylight reaches even the bathrooms…

Tapas and drinks on terrasse panoramique Hélianthal

Restaurant Hélianthal, terrasse panoramique/bar lounge, located in front of the hotel and rooftop casino has fantastic views of the ocean and the beaches of Saint-Jean-de-Luz. Smooth and stylish operation. Warm camembert, fried prawns, croque from the fist. Tasty but also pricey because of the exclusive location. As a result, the terrace was less than half occupied in the season (August). An exception in Saint-Jean-de-Luz where it is difficult to have lunch in other restaurants without reservations.

    Unique seaside spa

We stayed here as a convenient overnight to get to the fete de Bayonne. It worked well for that—it’s about a 20-min bus ride to Bayonne. We ended up really enjoying this hotel, for the most part. The rooms are spacious, with enough room for our child’s rollout bed. The spa/pool is pretty special with several different kinds of hydrotherapies with warm salt water. It opens directly onto a lovely beach. The spa was fairly rule -laden so be ready for them to tell you what kind of bathing trunks, bathrobe and hair tie you must wear, for instance. One complaint we had is that we weren't told when we dropped our bags at the front desk that the hotel had paid parking available. We ended up parking at a garage 10 min away before finding out from a different desk clerk that parking would have been possible for us.
