  Room 905

  I wanted to take a moment to personally share something with you about the incredible team you have at The Ritz-Carlton, Istanbul. At the end of the day, I’m just the guy staying in Room 905 — but somehow, to everyone on your staff, I’m always “Mr. Montana.” :) What has impressed me most isn’t simply the level of service; it’s how personal that service has become. Your team remembers the smallest details. They know the seat I like when I come down for breakfast. They remember that I’m not really a buffet person, so Nisa will have the team make me a fresh plate of pancakes or waffles. She’ll even help me figure out which coffee shop I should try in the morning. Yeliz somehow makes sure 100% of anything I need is handled, often before I even have to think about it. And then there is one of my favorites, Erna — who takes such wonderful care of me with the spa services and always makes the experience feel special. ERNA you’re the best!!! These may sound like small things individually, but together they are exactly what separates good hospitality from something truly memorable. Your team doesn’t make me feel like a room number or simply another guest passing through Istanbul. They make me feel known, remembered, and genuinely cared for. I travel quite a bit and stay at many wonderful hotels around the world, but what your team has created here is different. The Ritz-Carlton Istanbul isn’t just a Ritz-Carlton to me anymore. It is home when I’m not home. I wanted you, as General Manager, to know how special the people on your team are and how much their kindness, attention to detail, and genuine hospitality have meant to me during my stay.   Mixed results

  We had one main criterion for choosing our hotel: a pool, where we could relax with our child after long days of walking in Istanbul. On this specific point, the stay was nothing but a succession of disappointments. The "infinity" pool in the photos turned out to be a basin 90 cm deep and 1.30 m wide—impossible for a child to really play in. At 4 p.m., we were furthermore asked to leave the adjoining terrace, which had been requisitioned for an outdoor movie screening. We were counting on making up for it with the indoor pool. Another disappointment: access was denied to us, as children were no longer admitted after 5 p.m., "so as not to disturb the guests." We had to protest at the front desk to get a thirty-minute exception—only once in a six-day stay. We were the only guests in the pool at the time. All that for this. Added to this was staff insisting on the matter of tips and, at the time of departure, one last mishap: the front desk had quoted us less than 3,000 TL for one of their taxis to the airport; the ride ultimately cost us 4,500. The hotel is well-located, elegant, and modern, and the view of the Bosphorus is magnificent. But the experience remains far below what one expects from a five-star hotel.

  For those who want peace of mind

  It is a very beautiful hotel. I think the security is perfect. The staff are friendly and able to communicate with you with peace of mind. But I don't know...it's not enough. I don't really feel Istanbul. The view of the Bosphorus is amazing. I don't think there's any other option but to drive because there's nothing around. I think it's a location that's not suitable for people who want to take a walk from the hotel to the city.
