On the Estela Golf Course at Póvoa de Varzim, this is a place surrounded by greenery, with its own stretch of private beach at the edge of the greens. The lodges are the surprise: converted shipping containers reworked into guest rooms, each angled for privacy, sheltered from the wind, and turned toward the surroundings. Golf is the obvious draw, but the days fill easily otherwise. Down on the beach, an activities centre supplies the gear for water sports. Two restaurants and a pool bar handle the eating and drinking, and room service runs until midnight for evenings you would rather stay put. The nearest airport, Póvoa de Varzim Airfield, is about 14 minutes' drive.
