Overview

On the stretch of Tuscan coast the poet Carducci loved, Tombolo Talasso Resort sits where the hills settle into century-old olive groves and vineyards before reaching the sea. This is old Etruscan country, and the resort keeps faith with it, holding to Tuscan tradition while reaching for something more polished. The idea of wellbeing here runs wider than the Thalassotherapy Centre and spa alone. It takes in the calm of…

    Excellent property.

Clean and welcoming rooms, very helpful staff, varied and abundant breakfast, good dinner, and excellent beach service.

    An unwelcome return

Unwelcome return I had already been to Tombolo Talasso Hotel a couple of summers ago, always in the month of August. Unfortunately, I must say that the property has had a total decline since then. First of all, the room: I had booked a superior park view (which, from the photos attached to the quote, was supposed to be on the park side), which instead had a view of the internal corridor, characterized by filthy flooring with plants in shabby pots, and of the bar hood that emitted a smell of fried potatoes at all hours, even in the evening. Furthermore, the room absolutely did not have the characteristics of a 5-star hotel (apart from the cost) but had stained walls, curtains that were difficult to close due to the bent metal of their track, and doors stained with greasy handprints and swollen at both the base and the doorposts. The bathroom had all accessories stained and rusty, towel racks with pieces falling off, burnt-out light bulbs, a crusty and moldy shower door, a hair dryer full of dust, bath linens wrinkled and thrown about, a shower with an internal pillar that makes it 70x60 cm, and finally, a persistent and annoying smell of dampness and mold. Finally, the air conditioning was noisy and dripped copiously onto the floor in front of the bathroom throughout the night, with the risk of slipping if you have slippers on or getting wet if barefoot. We pointed out to the staff that the room was not the one requested and indicated on the reservation; they took note of all our complaints but did not provide for a room change due to unavailability, nor did they revise the cost, other than offering us a suite for the modest additional price of 600 euros for the remaining three days. Finally, a note on the rest of the property. The SPA is in need of urgent renovation work. The facilities and the Turkish bath are in a complete state of neglect. Accessories such as broken or non-functioning faucets, swollen doors, rust, broken drains, and a large part not working. Finally, during the four-day stay, I never found the tubs at the same temperature, the pool lounge chairs were dirty and worn, the bottom of the pool was peeling, and accessories were loose or removed. Restaurant. We opted for half board. Decent breakfast, dinner with a ridiculous buffet and courses with little choice for those with intolerances. In fact, we ate out the last few days and, despite having reported it, the bill also included the dinners we didn't have. Broken umbrellas that fall apart in the wind. In short, a total disappointment. Only the beach is worth it, even if the bar prices are like a night club, a spritz is 14 euros!?!? A piece of advice. If you really want to go there, as the reception suggested to us, call and specify how you want the room, otherwise they will give you 125 which, in my opinion, should be used as a storage room like 124, which is always open and desolate.
