  Ambivalent experience

  A beautiful property with various terraces with a view over the city to the Tagus. It could be a wonderful hotel. However: The extremely nice staff offers abysmal service; I had to wait about 20 minutes for a cappuccino alone every morning. The food in the highly acclaimed restaurant was mediocre; the meat arrived at the table almost cold and was then reheated while the side dishes grew cold. The room was dark and smelled of sewage from the bathroom, even when the door to the bathroom was closed. There was no storage space in the bathroom, no hooks, and also no sufficient light here. My complaint on the day of departure was at least met with a 50 EUR deduction from the bill.

  Day by the pool

  We were flying home late and had a day pass to enjoy the pool and lunch - fabulous

  Not a 5 Star Hotel

  The Torel Palace is a boutique hotel with many nice features but it is not of the quality of a 5 star property. The hotel offers a wonderful location near Ave. Liberdade with gorgeous city views. Breakfast was excellent and served in a welcoming and unique space, as was the bar. But many of the other common areas were not acceptable. The swimming pool was filthy. Visible algae and debris, bird droppings on the pool coving, and torn cushions. The courtyard had weeds growing between the tiles, and the gym was tiny, tiny .. claustrophobic for even one person. Our room did not have any drawers or table surfaces. There was just a tiny ledge by the bed for your phone and a glass of water. Everything else had to hang in the closet or stay in your luggage. Paint on the walls was chipping in many places. We also had an issue with them charging us in USD despite our request for Euros. They did correct this, but it was a final departing reminder that Torel Palace is not 5 stars as advertised.
