Overview

Villa Neri sits on the ground between Mount Etna and the Sicilian coast, within reach of Taormina, and the first instruction it gives is to stop and listen. Wind moving through the olive trees, birdsong close by: the quiet here does the introducing. This is a design hotel rather than a rustic one, though, where contemporary comfort has been set carefully against Sicilian tradition. Rooms bring in local materials, wooden…

Sadly not great, but not without its moments of loveliness

Looked forward to it, wanted to love it, but I just can’t let go of how disappointing the service is. The place probably was a source of pride once, but it’s starting to show its wear. Staff completely disinterested in you, on their phone, dishes left on tables for hours, to be fair, food is quite good, though confusingly a bit too ambitious or too lackluster at times. The breakfast is exceptional, the lemon risotto at dinner is wonderful and the selection of beverages very good. But most interactions with staff leaves you asking if you should apologize for asking for anything. Simple requests are more often than not met with a sigh, curiosity about offering isn’t entertained, and there’s just no sense of pride. It’s as frustrating as it’s sad. Just sat in reception across the desk, and asked staff if they could assist with a WiFi issue. I got a half hearted recommendation to try again. I have now seen 3 people spend the better part of an hour discussing the private life and not a single glimpse of attention to the only guest in the lobby. By pool, both waitresses disappeared for over 30 mins, by the time one appeared, they were immediately by the phone. Two full days by pool and not once was I asked if something was required. Having said that, I’ll probably come back. It’s the most well-equipped hotel this close to the vineyards, but I’m truly annoyed as the price asked just doesn’t meet the expectations. I would probably have spent 3 times as much on lunch if only someone asked if I wanted something. Picciolo nearby is much friendlier but also an entirely different atmosphere. Fucina di Volcano is a budget hotel, and a fraction of the price with some annoying Ryan air pricing strategies, but the staff genuinely tried to delight guests around the pool. These other hotels don’t meet the standards of rooms and amenities, but - I didn’t find myself annoyed at my price/expextations there. Wish this hotel the best, Signor Neri did an excellent job incepting this hotel, if only that level of care could be felt today again.

Amazing i wish i could go back

Five-Star Hotel Review ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I had an absolutely amazing stay at this hotel! From the moment we arrived, the staff was incredibly welcoming, friendly, and helpful. The room was beautiful, spotless, and very comfortable, with everything we needed for a relaxing stay. The hotel itself was elegant and well-maintained, and the service was truly outstanding. The location was also perfect and made it easy to enjoy everything nearby. Overall, this hotel exceeded my expectations, and I would definitely stay here again. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a luxurious and memorable experience!

Absolutely the best hotel I’ve been to in Sicily, made my stay much better

I had a wonderful experience at this hotel. It truly deserves its 5-star rating. From the moment we arrived, everything was excellent — the service was welcoming, the hotel was beautiful and comfortable, and the overall atmosphere was relaxing. The food was fantastic, with a great selection and everything we tried was fresh and delicious. Our stay was equally enjoyable, with a comfortable room, excellent facilities, and attentive staff who made us feel very well looked after. Overall, it was a fantastic experience from start to finish. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a luxurious stay, great food, and excellent service. I would happily come back again!
